A culinary innovator born in New York and raised in Jamaica, Chef Jay B. McCarthy earned his education from Texas A&M University. He has made significant contributions to the culinary scene at renowned establishments such as Cascabel Restaurant in San Antonio, HEB Central Market, and the Beaver Creek Chophouse in Colorado. Honored as Alamo City’s Best Chef and a recipient of the Critic’s Choice Award at the Texas Hill Country Food and Wine Festival, McCarthy is also a Certified Culinary Professional (CCP) accredited by the International Association of Culinary Professionals.
He co-authored Traveling Jamaica with Knife, Fork, and Spoon and contributed to Texas: The Beautiful Cookbook, sharing his culinary expertise. A frequent TV and radio guest, McCarthy is a respected critic, panelist, and judge for Bon Appetit’s Iron Chef.
He is the Culinary Director & Mentor for Destination Hospitality Group, overseeing multiple restaurants in Colorado. He also remains active in global consultancy, teaching, and lecturing, sharing his creativity and passion for the culinary arts.
