In celebration of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud Bali invites guests to immerse themselves in “Weaving Stories from Bali,” a cultural afternoon that blends heritage, storytelling, and sensory experiences. Taking place on 14 August 2025 at 3 PM in the resort’s lush, open air Lobby Area, the event is presented in collaboration with Threads of Life, a Bali-based social enterprise dedicated to the preservation of Indonesia’s rich textile traditions.

Aligning with Westin’s Six Pillars of Well-being, especially Feel Well and Play Well, this curated experience encourages cultural exploration as a form of mindful enrichment and joy. Guests are invited to slow down, connect, and engage with meaningful stories that celebrate Indonesia’s heritage, nurturing both emotional and intellectual wellness.

The event begins with a film screening of Tradition Keepers, produced by Threads of Life, followed by a live storytelling session led by Made Maduarta, co-founder of Threads of Life. This intimate session will uncover the deeper significance behind sacred Balinese textiles such as kain bebali and kain poleng, offering a glimpse into their ritual roles and continued relevance in modern day Bali.

The resort’s lobby, with its view of the Ubud jungle, will be transformed into a living gallery, featuring a curated textile showcase that highlights rare handwoven pieces created by artisan communities from across the archipelago. These textiles, rich in heritage and purpose are seldom seen even within Ubud, making this event an exclusive opportunity for cultural discovery. A dedicated pop-up booth will also offer handcrafted items by Threads of Life, allowing guests to bring home an authentic piece of Indonesian tradition.

As part of the celebration, attendees will enjoy a selection of canapés, offering a flavorful preview of Indonesian Buffet Dinner to be hosted at Tabia Restaurant on August 17, 2025. Open to both in-house guests and the wider Ubud community, the event invites textile lovers, travelers, and culture enthusiasts to gather and reconnect with Indonesia’s enduring traditions. Whether discovering ancestral weaving techniques or simply enjoying the serenity of the resort’s jungle setting, guests will leave feeling inspired and uplifted.

With this collaboration, The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud Bali continues its commitment to offering experiences that go beyond hospitality, fostering deeper connections to self, place, and culture, while supporting local artisans who preserve Indonesia’s heritage for future generations.
