In December 2013, COMO Hotels and Resorts debuted its luxury island resort in Phuket, Thailand, called COMO Point Yamu. This landmark opening brought COMO’s vision of privacy and inspired living to the exotic island of Phuket, Thailand.
COMO Point Yamu is conveniently nestled on the eastern side of Phuket on the tip of Cape Yamu. The distinctive limestone outcroppings of Phang Nga Bay are within the resort’s views. The bay includes hundreds of islands, most of them forested, uninhabited, and ringed by coral reefs making for excellent cruising, diving, and exploration days within these UNESCO-protected, ecologically significant waters.
The resort is set comfortably in the landscape with panoramic views across the bay from each of the 106 bedrooms, suites and private villas. Many of the rooms have pools or multiple bedrooms specially designed for families.
The interior aesthetic is developed by renowned Italian designer Paola Navone, the collaboration sees COMO’s signature clean lines and pared-back, contemporary style united with Navone’s eclectic, colorful approach and the use of local materials.
The result is a dazzling palette of bright aquamarines and burnt oranges. Using Thai artisanal techniques such as traditional wood tiling, and material such as woven rattan for texture, the design reflects the presence of the sea, Thailand’s Buddhist culture, and the colorful influence of Phuket’s Peranakan culture. The ocean-facing, floor-to-ceiling windows in each room offer spectacular views of the turquoise waters.
With some of COMO's most striking pool villas, sits on the tip of Cape Yamu, giving magnificent views of Phang Nga Bay. The playful interiors are by Paola Navone — a tour-de-force in modern, location-sensitive design on an island imbued with a rich Thai culture.
In-room facilities are decadent in their details. Each room is air-conditioned and beds are dressed in the finest Egyptian cotton.
COMO Hotels and Resorts cuisine is considered a crucial element of the guest's exceptional experience. Guests have the choice of two restaurants at the resort, as well as a light bar menu from the poolside bar, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
La Sirena offers Italian cooking and locally caught seafood, with views of aquamarine Phang Nga Bay stretching out beyond the 100 m infinity pool. Nahmyaa serves dinner inspired by southern Thai cuisine. Dinner includes whole fish (grilled, steamed, and fried), river prawns, and crab, with tastes combining the hot, salty, sweet, and sour notes that define this distinct culinary tradition. Desserts, which are very popular in Thai culture, include pandanus jellies and sweet sticky rice with mango.
The in-room dining menu at COMO Point Yamu is wide and varied. Available 24 hours a day, it includes healthy dishes, open sandwiches, kinds of pasta, Thai curries, salads, and seafood fares. Child and infant-friendly options are also available.
In addition, guests can benefit from COMO Shambhala Cuisine, which is designed to maximize energy with the use of raw foods rich in living enzymes, vitamins, and sea minerals. There is no calorie counting, although dishes are conspicuously light. Instead, the food optimizes on the nutritions while tasting delicious, with unprocessed honey replacing other sweeteners and, when fat is needed, organic olive oil replacing butter. The COMO Shambhala Cuisine menu is available in La Sirena as well as in-room dining.
It is not just through food that COMO Point Yamu caters to guests’ well-being. The award-winning COMO Shambhala Retreat offers yoga, Pilates, and related treatments. The retreat building incorporates nature into the spa experience so that guests feel more connected. Facilities include five single treatment rooms, a yoga studio, and two Jacuzzis. There are also two double treatment rooms, meaning couples can enjoy their treatments together. Therapies include various kinds of hands-on healing, from the company’s signature COMO Shambhala Massage to a traditional Thai massage. Treatments unique to COMO Point Yamu include the Lanna Heritage Full Body Compress, utilizing traditional Thai herbs and spices in warmed boluses, a Thai Abdominal Chi Massage to promote better digestion, and a Lanna Heritage Body Scrub utilizing lemongrass and galangal to stimulate circulation and nourish tired skin.
Phuket’s sunshine encourages active pursuits. The warm and typically calm Andaman Sea beckons water sports enthusiasts, with snorkeling and diving opening up another world teeming with marine life. PADI-certified dive instructors are very high ability levels. Other popular activities include hiring a private yacht, and fishing. The island boasts three golf courses, one of which was designed by Jack Nicklaus. Family activities are manifold and are supported by an experienced team of activity leaders and babysitters, with a children’s activity area, Play by COMO.
