For the first time ever, Indonesia has achieved a remarkable milestone in the global hospitality scene. Following its successful introduction in Europe, Japan, and Thailand, Michelin Guide’s latest accolade—the Michelin Key—has officially arrived in Indonesia.
33 Hotels and Resorts Earn Prestigious Michelin Key Recognition
The global launch of the Michelin Key in early October 2025 marks a historic moment, as it signifies the evaluation of over 7,000 hotels worldwide, including 33 outstanding properties from Indonesia.
The Michelin Key serves as the hotel industry’s equivalent to the Michelin Star, which honors excellence in the culinary world. The recognition is based on five core criteria: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, hotel character and personality, value for money, and contribution to the environment and local community.

With this new system, the hospitality world now has a global benchmark that evaluates the overall guest experience—focusing not only on exclusivity but also on the warmth and authenticity of service.
What Is the Michelin Key?
The Michelin Key is a form of recognition in the hospitality industry, designed to assess hotel stays based on uniqueness, service, and sustainability impact. Much like the Michelin Star system for restaurants, the Michelin Key is divided into three categories:
One Key — A very special stay
Two Keys — An exceptional stay
Three Keys — An extraordinary stay
