The Papandayan Jazz Fest 2024
The Papandayan Jazz Fest (TPJF) 2024 returned with an impressive two-day lineup that brought music enthusiasts together at The Papandayan Hotel Bandung. The festival, which began on October 26, saw hundreds of attendees gather to enjoy performances across six main stages: Mirten Stage, TP Stage, Tropical Garden Stage, Hurubatu MLD Stage, Cimanuk Stage, and Suagi BJB Stage.
Day One: Nostalgia Meets Jazz Innovation
The festival kicked off with lively campus performances on the Cimanuk Stage from PCMS, StiMB Taruna Bakti, UPI, and Senjien, which set an energetic tone for the day. Fans eagerly gathered at TP Stage to attend a Master Jazz Class by Robert MR, while the Tropical Garden Stage’s serene, “glowing forest” ambiance complemented soulful performances by Tuan Sendiri, Estuari, and Iyoq Kusdini. As the day continued, jazz enthusiasts moved between stages, enjoying the sounds of Vico Wibowo and international artist James Flynn, who later teamed up with Imelda Rosalin and Friends. Day One wrapped up at the Mirten Stage with Natasya Elvira’s brilliant set, while TP Stage hosted F-Squad and jazz legend Amir Ishak.
At the outdoor Hurubatu MLD Stage, Madame & Toean’s gypsy jazz style blended perfectly with Jordan Susanto’s soulful R&B. To cap off the first day, Suagi BJB Stage treated audiences to an unforgettable nostalgia-filled set with Potret, featuring classics like “Bimbang” and “Bunda,” and captivating performances by Sandhy Sondoro, Marcello Tahitoe, and Dwiki Dharmawan.
Day Two: Musical Diversity in Full Swing
October 27 welcomed fans back for a second day filled with unique performances and diverse jazz styles. Student bands from UNPAR and UNPAS opened the Cimanuk Stage, while at TP Stage, audiences enjoyed another jazz masterclass led by James Flynn, who shared insights into his musical journey. Venche Music School and groups like Straight Ahead ft. Hari Pochang added to the TP Stage lineup, as the Tropical Garden’s magical ambiance filled with melodies from Zaki Peniti and Panji Sakti.
The Mirten Stage hosted a special tribute to the Indonesian jazz maestro Bubi Chen, honoring his contributions with an award presented to his son, Benny Chen. Later performances included fan favorites like The Jasmates and NonaRia. The Suagi BJB Stage highlighted star moments as Andre Dinuth & Wanda Omar delivered hits like “Merapat,” followed by an emotional tribute by The Bakuucakar for their late bandmate Glenn Fredly. Nadin Amizah’s ethereal performance in a white gown captivated the evening crowd, while Juicy Luicy closed the stage with fan favorites “Lantas” and “Sialan,” igniting a joyous singalong.
The Papandayan Jazz Fest 2024 concluded with a dynamic 90s R&B performance by The Brownsu at Hurubatu MLD Stage, leaving the audience singing along in high spirits.
