Weaving the Ocean: Pieces of Hope – Another Spectacular Collaboration at The Apurva Kempinski Bali

An innovative program that intertwines artistic brilliance and environmental consciousness with world-class sustainable artist Ari Bayuaji

The Apurva Kempinski Bali, an award-winning resort renowned for its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship is thrilled to announce its collaboration with esteemed artisan Ari Bayuaji. This extraordinary partnership marks the launch of the ‘Weaving the Ocean: Pieces of Hope’ program, an innovative project that intertwines artistic brilliance and environmental consciousness.

Ari Bayuaji, an internationally acclaimed Indonesian artist, beautifully captures the delicate balance of marine ecosystems and the interdependence of all living beings through his artwork centered around the theme ‘Weaving the Ocean’. Using discarded fishing nets, ropes, and other marine debris sourced from local coastal communities and fishermen, he meticulously creates intricate tapestries that depict the ethereal beauty and fragile nature of marine life. Ari's work aims to highlight the urgent need to protect our oceans and their diverse ecosystems.

Through his innovative use of eco-friendly materials and techniques, Ari Bayuaji is diligently crafting captivating artworks to life. Joining forces with The Apurva Kempinski Bali, an art installation is displayed in the center of the iconic Koral restaurant to bring awareness towards marine conservation through sustainable artistry. This artistic collaboration features traditional loom and upcycled fabrics from strings of yarn woven with shredded plastics. Each element is thoughtfully chosen to minimize its environmental impact.

Beyond simply showcasing the installation, guests are invited to embark on a transformative journey and become an integral part of the narrative in repurposing raw materials into a thought-provoking work of art. Guests are offered an exclusive opportunity to tie handcrafted corals made of plastic with a string of plastic thread on a loom, leaving a personal imprint on the vibrant masterpiece that takes shape as the frame fills with strings. This interactive experience aims to instill a sense of hope and inspire and foster a deeper understanding of the delicate relationship between art, nature, and craftsmanship while amplifying the importance of sustainability and eco-consciousness.

Ari Bayuaji stated, “It is a pleasure to collaborate with The Apurva Kempinski Bali, a like-minded partner who shares common visions on sustainability and environmental consciousness. Together, we are weaving pieces of hope for future generations. This collaboration holds a deep personal meaning as we combine our creative forces to make a genuine impact on the world we deeply care about”.

The Apurva Kempinski Bali is committed to sustainability across its operations, implementing various initiatives to minimize its environmental impact. This collaboration with Ari Bayuaji further reinforces the resort's dedication to creating a positive influence on the environmental and social aspects, while delivering exceptional experiences to its guests.
