International School Celebrating World Food Day with The Magi Farm

In celebration of World Food Day 2024, Bali Island School (BIS) hosted a hands-on workshop for Grade 5 students that focused on sustainability practices for food waste management and how Magi Farm initiatives through small units of waste management help the Government’s efforts to support the SDGs.

As a school committed to empowering students in an active and engaging learning environment, Bali Island School hosted a hands-on workshop with Magi Farm, a social enterprise focusing on food waste management and sustainability practices for young learners. The workshop occurred at the Bali Island School Multi-Purposed Room and engaged 33 Grade 5 students.

During the workshop, our students learned about Magi Farm's collaboration with local waste management units and had a hands-on experience with maggots used for composting. At the end of the session, baby maggots were left in the Grade 5 classrooms for them to feed with food waste.

"Food waste is a global issue. This workshop inspired us to be more mindful of consumption and offers our students a chance to learn about waste management and sustainability." - Vika, Marketing Manager of Bali Island School.

The collaboration between BIS and Magi Farm underlined BIS’s commitment to fostering globally-minded learners and critical thinkers and promoting active community engagement.
