Inside Steaksmith: Renaissance Bali Nusa Dua’s Elegant Steakhouse
Designed by acclaimed architect Andra Matin and P49 Deesign, Steaksmith's interior brings together Balinese influences with natural materials like wood, stone, brick, and metal. The choice of semi-outdoor and indoor seating means you can enjoy a tropical breeze or the cool comfort of an air-conditioned room. With its setting close to the iconic Jungle Pool, the restaurant’s serene ambiance creates a sense of retreat, enhanced by the surrounding greenery and soft lighting.
For this exclusive media tasting, we began our evening in the garden area, where we sipped on creative cocktails and sampled refined canapés. The garden space was a perfect introduction to the night ahead, setting a cozy yet sophisticated tone that Steaksmith carries throughout. The stylish touches continue with the attire of the staff, inspired by Balinese artistry, thanks to a collaboration with local designer Dwico. This thoughtful addition weaves in a unique cultural note that subtly complements the surroundings.
Moving to the main dining area, we settled in for a tasting menu that Steaksmith curated to showcase their passion for high-quality ingredients and expertly grilled meat. The experience began with appetizers, including a smokey Caesar salad and a beef tartare served with chargrilled bone marrow, potato chips, and crisp sourdough. Each dish featured meticulous details and bold flavors that hinted at the depth of Steaksmith’s menu.
Next came the mains, the star of the evening. Steaksmith’s concept shines through here, with a variety of premium cuts carefully grilled to perfection. With a selection that included Black Angus and marbled Wagyu, each steak was smoked over natural charcoal and wood, giving it a robust, earthy flavor. The meats were complemented by a variety of sides and sauces, allowing us to customize our experience. Smoked pork ribs were also part of the spread, coated in a smoky apple glaze and paired beautifully with side dishes like mini sweet potatoes and roasted bell peppers. Every bite was tender and full of flavor, showcasing the chefs' skill in precise grilling.
Our meal concluded with an indulgent trio of desserts: an Apple Millefeuille, a Basque Burnt Cheesecake, and a hot dark chocolate creation that satisfied our sweet cravings. Finally, a delicate rosemary bonbon capped off our dining experience, leaving us with a lingering hint of the restaurant’s imaginative culinary approach.
The name Steaksmith captures the restaurant’s spirit, paying homage to the craftsmanship of grilling meat to perfection, akin to a blacksmith's careful work with iron. Steaksmith’s focus on quality is evident not only in the food but also in the entire dining experience. Each dish on the tasting menu felt like a celebration of tradition and technique, carefully prepared and presented with a warm, yet elegant touch.
While the food alone makes Steaksmith a memorable experience, the atmosphere and thoughtful design make it a destination worth visiting. Whether for a special occasion or an intimate dinner, Steaksmith offers an ambiance that elevates the dining experience and adds a distinct Balinese charm to the classic steakhouse. This latest addition to Renaissance Bali Nusa Dua Resort brings a new level of sophistication to Nusa Dua’s dining scene, and we look forward to seeing how Steaksmith continues to delight diners in the months to come.
