A Bewitching Welcome at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort
Stepping into Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort that Sunday morning felt like crossing into a world where haute cuisine meets haunted chic. Cucina, the resort’s acclaimed Italian restaurant, was unrecognizable in the best way possible. Pumpkins carved with mischievous grins lined the entrance, spiderwebs stretched across elegant table settings, and the staff looked straight out of a Tim Burton fantasy. Wizards, ghosts, and a few delightfully creepy “undead” waiters welcomed us with big smiles (and white contact lenses).

The air buzzed with excitement. Guests, many dressed in elaborate costumes, posed for photos against the Halloween-themed backdrop, while live performers filled the room with upbeat tunes that kept the energy high. From the very start, we knew this would be a full-on sensory experience!
A Feast That’s Frightfully Good
Cucina’s Halloween Brunch took its signature indulgence up a notch. Overseen by Chef Patrizia Battolu and her talented team, the spread was nothing short of spectacular. We started our culinary journey with Italian, French, and Balinese classics (Babi Guling!), beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. Freshly grilled seafood, tender meats, and made-to-order pasta stations made it nearly impossible to choose just one plate.

But the real magic? The dessert section. It was as if Willy Wonka had gone goth for the weekend. One-eyed black croissants, “graveyard” bomboloni, ghost-shaped cakes, and whimsical wizard-hat cupcakes begged to be photographed before being devoured. The pastry team clearly had fun letting their imaginations run wild, and we were more than happy to taste the results.
Trick or Drink: A Bar Takeover to Remember
Of course, no Halloween celebration is complete without a little liquid mischief. This year’s brunch featured a special Trick or Drink Bar Takeover by Agus Sastrawan from Canna Beach Club, and it was nothing short of spellbinding.

We started with The Last Séance, a beautifully balanced mix of saba grappa, amaretto, lemon juice, and elderflower. Between the Hells, with its combination of saba vodka, strawberry shrub, and rose water, had just the right amount of sweet and sinister. But our favorite had to be the Not So Pumpkin Negroni, infused with pumpkin and coffee liqueur for a Halloween twist on the classic cocktail.
For those skipping alcohol, the non-alcoholic lineup was equally enchanting. The Lil Monster (butterfly pea, elderflower, and tonic water) was vibrant and refreshing, while Devil Whisper and Tears in Hells offered tangy, fruity kicks that kept the mood bright.
Entertainment That Casts a Spell
The entire event was a feast for both palate and eyes. A live band filled the air with infectious energy, and even the performers joined the fun, donning their own wicked costumes. Between bites, kids giggled at the face-painting corner while a roaming magician left both children and adults in awe.

By noon, the atmosphere reached peak Halloween chaos in the most delightful way. Every corner of Cucina buzzed with laughter, clinking glasses, and the occasional shriek of surprise from a magic trick gone right. And just when we thought the excitement couldn’t rise any higher, the Best Costume Competition began. Guests flaunted their creative ensembles for a chance to win special prizes.
A 'Spooky Sunday' to Remember
As the clock ticked past 3 PM, we realized the magic of Cucina’s Halloween Brunch lingered far beyond its themed décor. It was about the joy of celebrating together, in true Sofitel style. Families, couples, and groups of friends all shared that same sparkle in their eyes, the mark of a Sunday well spent.
Cucina’s Sunday Brunch, held weekly from 11 AM to 3 PM, is already known for its refined selection of Italian, Spanish, French, and Asian dishes. But this Halloween edition reminded us that luxury dining doesn’t have to be stiff or serious. It can be playful, surprising, and a little wicked too. Here’s to more Sundays that taste this hauntingly good.
