On Thursday, May 22nd, What's New Bali had the pleasure of attending The Big Connect 2025 at the Wantilan Convention, Prama Sanur—an annual highlight for Bali’s hospitality scene. With over 200 hospitality professionals, villa managers, and tech innovators in one space, the atmosphere was buzzing with energy, fresh ideas, and strategic conversations. From the get-go ,as we mingled over coffee and light bites, it was clear this event wasn’t just about networking—it was about redefining the future of hospitality in Bali.

The day kicked off with networking over light bites and a welcome coffee break, setting a vibrant tone for what was to come. The lineup of speakers was both impressive and inspiring. Michelle Yong from STAAH opened the event, followed by Yulistine Winarti from Expedia Group, who gave a compelling keynote on shifting travel behaviors and how to navigate evolving guest expectations in 2025. We were especially intrigued by her take on "bleisure" and "JOMO (Joy of Missing Out)"—emerging travel personas that are reshaping Bali’s visitor landscape.

Yuni Listiari of STAAH then took the stage to dive into the importance of digital transformation in accommodation businesses. Her insights on optimizing online presence and leveraging data to boost revenue were both timely and practical. Post-lunch, Olivia Tobing from Xendit captivated the room with real-world success stories on digital payment solutions, showcasing how streamlined transactions can enhance the guest experience and operational flow. William Newley of MG Group followed with key strategies to reach global B2B markets, lower cancellations, and improve profitability.

One of the highlights of the event was the panel discussion on sustainable tourism and crisis management, moderated by Barry Doesburg. The panelists, including hospitality veterans like Prayoga Handayaprana and I Nyoman Prabawa, tackled pressing issues such as over-tourism and climate resilience. Their shared passion for safeguarding Bali’s cultural and environmental integrity, while maintaining economic viability, sparked meaningful dialogue and a sense of shared responsibility among attendees.
