GrabElectric, the pioneer and the largest ride-hailing electric vehicles operator in Indonesia, today delivers another critical milestone by surpassing its first 100 million kilometers distance. This figure represents the total distance traveled by the 8,500 GrabElectric vehicle fleets in eight provinces. The momentum was marked by a convoy of 100 two-wheeled GrabElectric vehicles passing through the gates at the East Parking Area, the Bajra Sandhi Monument in Denpasar, Bali. As an illustration, the distance that GrabElectric has traveled from January 2021 to September 2022 is equivalent to more than 2,700 trips around the world.
The use of GrabElectric during this period also contributed to reducing the emissions of the equivalent of 10,000 tons of CO2 or more than 4 million liters of gasoline. This success was achieved thanks to the 20 million orders made by 1 million GrabElectric users throughout Indonesia. Starting the journey of transforming to low-emission vehicles in 2019, Grab has continuously participated in accelerating the deployment of the electric vehicle ecosystem in the country through partnerships with the government, SOEs, and private parties. As of October 2022, Grab has collaborated with Pertamina, PLN, SWAP Energi, Viar, Gesits, and KYMCO to deploy more than 600 battery swap stations in Jakarta, Bali, Medan, Surabaya, and Makassar.
Gubernur Bali, I Wayan Koster represented by Head of the Bali Provincial Transportation Service, I Gde Wayan Samsi Gunarta stated, “I appreciate Grab's commitment and consistency in supporting government policies and the agenda of the Indonesian G20 Presidency in sustainable energy transformation. Grab's a contribution to the implementation of the Bali Clean Energy policy proves to be of great importance in accelerating the transition from traditional fossil fuel-powered vehicles to electric-based vehicles. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate GrabElectric on reaching its first 100 million kilometers in Indonesia.”
President of Grab Indonesia, Ridzki Kramadibrata said, “This historic moment of the first 100 million kilometers of GrabElectric is celebrated as a means to also support Bali as the host of the G20 Summit, and is a manifestation of Grab's real support in realizing the focus on energy transformation which is one of the important topics of discussion at the G20 Indonesia Presidency. GrabElectric is also part of our support to realize the government's efforts to have more than 2 million electric vehicles by 2030.”
Country Managing Director of Grab Indonesia, Neneng Goenadi said, “Highest appreciation to our 1 million users who have placed 20 million orders for our GrabElectric fleets. We are all working together to reduce our carbon footprint in Indonesia. Grab will continue to strive to improve our practices that are good not only for our business but also for the environment. Since 2021, GrabElectric has converted entire two-wheel vehicles to electric motorcycles.”
In addition to organizing convoys with driver-partners and social media influencers and media in Bali, Grab also collaborated with an artist/illustrator from Tabanan Bali, Ida Bagus Ratu Antoni Putra or better known as Monez in a series of celebrations for the first 100 million kilometers of GrabElectric. With a distinctive touch of illustration, Monez's work is displayed at the final gate through which the GrabElectric convoy marks the 100 million kilometers milestone and an art installation serves as the stage for the event. This design tells a story and contains interesting information about GrabElectric's journey and achievements in Indonesia.
