The Warung Turns Up the Heat with 2-Night Valentine’s Dining Collaboration with GU:UM Singapore

-

This Valentine’s, The Warung at Alila Villas Uluwatu is all set to fan the flames of love and friendship with an exclusive dining experience hosted in collaboration with Singapore-based contemporary Korean steakhouse GU:UM. Chef Louis Han, the culinary maestro behind GU:UM and its sister restaurant, one-MICHELIN-starred NAE:UM, will take over the kitchen to ignite tastebuds with a modern Korean culinary adventure for two nights only, on 14 and 15 February 2025.

Growing up in the vibrant Gangnam district in Seoul, where global cultures intermingle, has been a great influence on Chef Han’s cooking. So too has his multicultural experience. Chef Han honed his Asian and Western fine-dining skills over thirteen years at various global cities from Seoul, Singapore to the Middle East, working at acclaimed restaurants such as the three-MICHELIN-starred Mosu in Seoul. He put down roots in Singapore while reconnecting with his own Korean roots with the launch of NAE:UM in 2021 and GU:UM in 2024. Chef Han was awarded the MICHELIN Guide Young Chef Award in 2022.

GU:UM, which means “to grill, roast or cook over fire” in Korean, is acclaimed for its innovative menu of charcoal-grilled meats and an eclectic repertoire of modern Korean flavours presented in a modern Western steakhouse setting. For this collaboration, Chef Han has curated a menu showcasing a selection of GU:UM’s best-selling signatures and bold new creations.

Diners can look forward to indulging in inventive interpretations of perennial Korean favourites, such as Yukhwae Jeon, a crisp and fluffy potato pancake topped with Korean-style beef tartare, pickled onions and an egg yolk jam; Korean Fried Cauliflower, a vegetarian twist on the universally loved Korean fried chicken, coated with a housemade sweet-spicy yangnyeom sauce; and a fresh take on Mulhwae, traditionally a cold and tangy soup served with slices of raw fish, reimagined as a salad with seasonal sashimi and a light and zesty dressing.

With appetites suitably whetted by the preceding delights, a hearty Sang (platter) of expertly grilled meats and seafood awaits, brimming with premium Iberico cuts, Wagyu striploin, delectable fresh fish and prawns, accompanied by perfectly charred vegetables sourced from Bali's natural bounty. Dressed in GU:UM’s signature marinades, the result is an exquisite sharing-plate symphony of Korean flavours kissed by Bali's treasures, to be savoured together with a Bali Herb Al (fish roe) Rice.

Drawing the menu to a sweet close are a duo of Korean fusion desserts: Yuzu Makgeoli, a tender poached pear with a yuzu and dealcoholized Korean rice wine sorbet, and Hotteok, a pan-fried glutinous rice cake topped with candied nuts and a scoop of burnt honey ice cream.

Whether enjoying a romantic evening under the stars, a memorable gathering with friends, or simply indulging your passion for good food, this exciting dining experience promises an unforgettable way to fire up your Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Available at The Warung starting from 6:30 pm on 14 and 15 February 2025, the sharing-course dinner is priced at IDR 1,880,000 plus 21% government tax and service charge per person.
