A series of alluring cultural activities will take place prior to the day of silence, such as: Melasti Ritual; a parade of Balinese in traditional attire to the temples near the sea, Pengerupukan; most Hindu Balinese villages make Ogoh-ogoh, demonic statues symbolizing negative elements or malevolent spirits and parade these during sundown one day before Nyepi. Then comes the day of silence where the whole island is shut including the airport. Traveling outside the house compound or resort premises is forbidden. The overall island will have minimal lights, and working-traveling-entertainment is not allowed.
