There is More to Yogyakarta Than Places to Go
There are temples to discover, markets to explore, galleries to visit, and heritage that invites you to discover. But perhaps there is another way to experience the cultural city, one that asks you to put the itinerary aside for a while.
In the countryside of Sleman, Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta offers a different kind of day. “A Day of Stillness” is an experience designed not around places to see, but around time to reconnect with body, nature, and oneself.
The experience begins with an hour of restorative yoga, where guests can choose the Riverside Deck and let the sound of flowing water, rustling leaves and the surrounding landscape become part of the practice. For those who prefere a more enclosed setting, the Movement Studio offers a quieter space to turn inward.

From movement, the body is given time to release through a Core Body Massage. There are three approaches to choose from: Deep Body Works, which work deeply into the muscles, Thai Stretch, drawing from the traditions of Thai Massage and Soothing Touch, a gentler treatment designed for expectant mother, children, and the elderly.
“Wellness is not about doing more. It is about listening to what the body needs and giving it the space to restore,” Eva Murti, Assistant Spa, Gallery, and Recreation Manager, Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta.

Then comes to nourishment, Chef Edy Santoso has curated a healthy Thai Set Menu of Pokpiah Pak, Pla Neung Manao, and Kao Niao Mamuang, bringing fresh flavours and thoughtful preparation to the table as another part of the wellbeing journey.
There is no need to rush afterwards. Guest can wander through selected areas of the resort, pause over a coffee at Kopi Zop, or simply spend time with the surrounding landscape.

Perhaps this is where Javanese idea of “sumeleh” comes in. “Sumeleh” is the feeling of letting go, releasing the need to control what comes next, and allowing yourself to be present with where you are.
And perhaps that is the point.
Because sometimes, experiencing Yogyakarta does not meanS seeing another place, checking another destination off a list, or filling another hour. Sometimes, it means finding a place where you can simply stop and discover what was there all along.
