Founded by Vallen Hertansia, this aromatherapy and fragrance brand didn’t start in a boardroom or a marketing lab.

In the bustling landscape of Indonesia's local beauty industry, few stories are as deeply personal as that of Six Scents. Founded by Vallen Hertansia, this aromatherapy and fragrance brand didn’t start in a boardroom or a marketing lab. Instead, it began in the quiet moments of a health crisis, born from a necessity for purity and a passion for mindful living.

A Turning Point: From Engineering to Aromatherapy

Vallen’s background is rooted in the precision of electrical and civil engineering—a far cry from the delicate world of top notes and base notes. However, in 2014, a diagnosis of an autoimmune disease changed everything.

"That moment became a turning point in my life," Vallen shares. "It pushed me to become far more conscious about the products I used daily. I realized that truly natural products in Indonesia were still difficult to find. Many brands claimed to be 'natural,' but their labels didn't meet the transparency I needed for my health."

What started as a personal quest to create safe, natural body care for herself soon blossomed. By 2019, after years of experimenting with botanical blends and essential oils, Six Scents was officially introduced to the world.

The Philosophy of the "Sixth Sense"

The name Six Scents is a clever play on words, but its meaning runs deeper than a catchy title. While we are all familiar with the five physical senses, Vallen believes in a vital sixth: Empathy.

"Empathy represents our ability to feel beyond ourselves," she explains. "It is about being aware of how our choices affect others, our communities, and the environment. We want to celebrate the sensory beauty of life while staying conscious of the connections we share with the world."

Crafting Memories in a Bottle

Unlike brands that chase fleeting market trends, Six Scents prioritizes "soul" and storytelling. Each fragrance is a bottled memory or a localized experience.

Magical Ubud: Captures the serene beauty of Balinese frangipani.

Peaceful Jogja: Inspired by the traditional Javanese siraman ritual using jasmine.

Vintage Library & Forget Jakarta: Vallen’s current personal favorites that evoke specific moods and nostalgic atmospheres.

To ensure these premium experiences remain accessible, Six Scents collaborates closely with local farmers. This "intentional formulation" allows the brand to maintain high-quality standards while supporting the local economy.

Overcoming the "Local Brand" Stigma

Building a fragrance brand online presents a unique challenge: How do you sell a scent someone can't smell?

Vallen tackled this through vivid storytelling and aesthetic consistency. By using evocative descriptions and a clean, modern visual identity, Six Scents allows customers to "feel" the fragrance through their screens. This dedication to authenticity hasn't gone unnoticed; in February 2026, the brand was honored with the Pengusaha Muda BRIlian award, a testament to its growing influence in the Indonesian market.

The Future: A Holistic Lifestyle Brand

Looking ahead, Vallen envisions Six Scents evolving beyond perfumes into a holistic sensory lifestyle brand. Plans are already in motion to expand into home fragrances and wellness-related body care.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, Vallen offers a simple piece of advice inspired by a famous blue tang fish: "Just keep swimming." "Start with something that truly matters to you," she says. "Authenticity is key. When your brand reflects your values, people connect with it. You don't need to have all the answers at the start—you just need the persistence to keep moving forward."
