Accor, the leading global hospitality group, proudly presents KarnavALL Batik Indonesia in celebration of National Batik Day, observed every year on October 2. To honor this valuable Indonesian tradition, Accor hotels and resorts in more than 30 destinations across the country are hosting a series of Batik-themed activities throughout October, offering guests an immersive experience.
These activities will include fashion shows, workshops, exhibitions showcasing Batik products from local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and culinary dishes inspired by Batik themes. Guests of all ages will be invited to participate in a variety of events, from interactive activities for children to special discounts for those wearing Batik attire.
As part of Accor, Novotel Ibis Yogyakarta International Airport Kulon Progo held a fashion show and a Batik Ciprat workshop in collaboration with Giri Kasih Batik Ciprat Kulon Progo at the Novotel YIA pool area on October 15, 2024, which also coincided with the 73rd anniversary of Kulon Progo.
The event was attended by Mrs. Ir. Srie Nurkyatsiwi, MMA, PJ Bupati of Kulon Progo; Mrs. Priyanti, the founder of Giri Kasih Batik Ciprat; and nine children with special needs from Giri Kasih Batik Ciprat. Giri Kasih Batik Ciprat Kulon Progo is a local SME specializing in the unique Batik Ciprat technique, which creates dynamic and colorful patterns. What makes this technique even more special is that the artisans are children with special needs.
“Through this event, we hope to deepen our appreciation for diversity, support inclusivity, and continue preserving Batik culture as a priceless heritage of our nation. Batik Ciprat symbolizes boundless creativity brought to life by the extraordinary hands of our friends,” said Gunawan Widodo, General Manager of Novotel Ibis Yogyakarta International Airport Kulon Progo.
During the event, Batik Ciprat Giri Kasih designs were showcased and modeled by the management and staff of Novotel Ibis YIA Kulon Progo. There was also a Batik Ciprat workshop session with the PJ Bupati of Kulon Progo, the Giri Kasih Batik Ciprat community, and the management and staff of Novotel Ibis YIA Kulon Progo. The batik-making workshop involved using linen fabric, allowing invited guests and participants to experience firsthand the spontaneous, dynamic, and colorful process of making Batik Ciprat.
Garth Simmons, Accor’s Chief Operating Officer, Premium, Midscale & Economy Division in Asia, expressed his excitement: “We are thrilled to celebrate Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage through the KarnavALL Batik Indonesia initiative. This celebration not only honors the beautiful art of Batik but also connects tradition with contemporary experiences, allowing our guests to engage with Indonesian culture in meaningful ways. We are proud to support local communities and SMEs, showcasing their craftsmanship while offering unique and memorable experiences to our guests.”
The public is invited to join the celebration both in person and online by following #KarnavALLBatikIndonesia2024 and participating in various Batik-themed activities throughout the month.
