Sea of Pink Flooded Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta at the 2024 Pink Ribbon Charity Run

Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta once again held its annual charity run to support breast cancer warriors, titled the Pink Ribbon Run, on Sunday (10/20). In its sixth year, this event successfully attracted over 600 participants of all ages from various cities across Indonesia and abroad. Dressed in pink jerseys, participants transformed the hotel area into a sea of pink.

Pink Ribbon is part of Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which began in 2014. Initially, the program focused on seminars to raise breast cancer awareness. As the running trend grew, the event evolved in 2016 into a fundraising run to support breast cancer fighters.

This year, the Pink Ribbon Run returned with a fun run concept, offering two categories: 5K and 10K. The race started and finished at South Garden, Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta, officially opened by Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta’s General Manager, Wilis Prastowo, along with I. M. Sunarsih Sutaryo, Head of the Indonesian Cancer Foundation (YKI) for Yogyakarta.

The event, which took place from 5:00 to 9:00 AM, was a vibrant and smooth experience. Unique to the 2024 Pink Ribbon Run, the route passed through beautiful rural areas with views of rice fields and gardens, and participants competed for prizes such as stays at Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Solo, Makassar, and Bali, valued at tens of millions of rupiah.

On this occasion, the organizers presented a donation collected from 10% of participants' registration fees, amounting to IDR 15,500,000, plus an additional IDR 5,000,000 from the Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta management. A total of IDR 20,500,000 was donated to YKI Yogyakarta to support building a shelter for pediatric cancer patients.

Facts about Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 2.3 million women globally were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, and it is the leading cause of death among women. In Indonesia, breast cancer is also the most common cancer, with a prevalence of 42.1 per 100,000 people. Early detection through routine examinations and public awareness about breast exams is crucial in increasing recovery rates.

“We are grateful that this charity run receives a positive response from the community and the Indonesian Cancer Foundation every year. With growing public awareness about breast cancer, we hope this event continues to inspire everyone, reminding us of the importance of solidarity in supporting those fighting cancer. Each small step we take together brings great hope to them,” concluded Wilis.
