Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta, a distinguished 5-star resort situated in the cultural heart of Yogyakarta, proudly presents “Banyan: The Shelter of Life”, a painting exhibition showcasing the stunning works of Indonesian art maestro Kartika Affandi, who has dedicated 90 years to her craft. This extraordinary event also highlights a special collaboration with her youngest son, Didit Slenthem, emphasizing their shared artistic spirit.

Running from December 10, 2024, to January 10, 2025, the exhibition is open to the public. Its title is inspired by the banyan tree, a long-standing symbol of protection and shelter, mirroring Kartika Affandi’s role as a mentor and inspiration to young Indonesian artists.

Kartika Affandi’s masterpieces, numbering 10 paintings, radiate profound meaning and natural beauty. Iconic works such as “Beringin di Campuhan” (1992) and “Bunut Bolong Jembrana Bali” (2013) reflect her signature expressionist style, which has influenced generations.

Equally captivating, Didit Slenthem contributes 10 stunning paintings, including “Mata Air” (2013) and “Bongkasa” (2024), which carry forward the Affandi family’s artistic tradition. His expressionist style, infused with a modern touch, underscores his exceptional talent and inheritance of creativity from his mother and grandfather, the legendary Affandi.

“This exhibition allows us to share stories and inspiration through our artwork,” expressed Didit Slenthem during the opening ceremony on December 10, 2024, at Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta.

Ridwan Heriyadi, General Manager of Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta, remarked, “We are deeply honored to host this milestone in Ibu Kartika Affandi’s artistic journey. This exhibition underscores our commitment to fostering Indonesian arts and culture.” As part of the Banyan Group, the resort consistently supports and advances artistic endeavors, aligning with its cultural preservation mission.

Through this remarkable exhibition, Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta celebrates Kartika Affandi’s lifelong contributions to Indonesian art while highlighting the generational continuity of creativity in the Affandi family.
