With Mount Mahawu on one side and Mount Lokon on the other, the city of Tomohon is renowned with its cool climate. This year, with Tomohon International Flower Festival 2019, the city feels even more mesmerizing, colorful, and fragrant from August 7-12, 2019.
Officiated by the Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Arief Yahya, Tomohon International Flower Festival (TIFF) is said to be improving as it is supported by the development of Special Economic Zones (KEK).
Included in the 100 Calendars of Events at the Ministry of Tourism, Tomohon International Flower Festival 2019 is marked by breaking the MURI record for Ma’zani Dance, in the category of “Dance with most number of performers”, namely 1530 dancers.
This year’s TIFF is also made special with the inauguration of a new flower variety named Iriana Tomohon, named after the first lady of Republic of Indonesia, Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo.
A number of countries took part in the event as it is attended by the ambassadors of participating countries. Ukraine, the United States, South Korea, and Nepal aside from participants from several other regions in Indonesia such as Manokwari Papua. This shows that TIFF is a long-awaited event by not only by people from other regions of the island but also other countries.
After the inauguration “Iriana Tomohon” flower, the event then continued with the staging of the Kabasaran Dance, an iconic war dance of the Minahasa Tribe, before the showing of record-breaking Ma’zani Dance.
The highlight of the 2019 Tomohon International Flower Festival is a parade of ornamental vehicles from Tomohon as the host. The festivities then continued with decorative vehicles from many institutions in North Sulawesi and Manokwari all serenaded by an upbeat marching band also parading along the main street of the city of Tomohon.
Expected to have a positive impact on the economic sector and people’s welfare, TIFF has shown growth where the number of tourists in 2015-2018 is continued to grow by 517 percent. It does not stop there, TIFF also impacting the sales of flower farmers in Tomohon indeed!
Tomohon International Flower Festival 2019 surely strengthens this city as the City of Flowers and earns its place to make a flowery return every year.
