When we talk about creativity in the culinary world, it will be an endless topic. Fully aware of this, The Westin Surabaya presents a new event that was held for the first time this month, namely ‘Westin Gastronome Fest’. The premiere was held on 23 – 24 October, creating a wonderful culinary collaboration between Chef de Cuisine of Magnolia Restaurant, Chef John Tarigan and the owner of Mil’s Kitchen Yogyakarta, Chef Mili Hendratno. These two professional chefs combined their creations at the Westin Gastronome Fest in collaboration with Aqua Reflections, to present a series of special menus in Modern Asia’s Reflections.

“‘Westin Gastronome Fest’ is our regular The Westin Surabaya’s culinary event with a kitchen-takeover concept, where there will be unique collaborations from our Home Chef with the best chefs in Indonesia and even the world,” explained Rizal Afandi, Complex Director of Food and Beverages The Westin Surabaya and Four Points Surabaya Pakuwon Indah. “Certainly, through this ‘Westin Gastronome Fest’, we want to bring a culinary dining experience that is constantly new and different, because the culinary world is very broad. Moreover, with one of Westin’s basic pillars, namely ‘Eat Well’, we want every of our guests to have a dining experience that is not only delightful and luxurious, but also unique, sensational, and leaves an impression,” he added.

This month’s Westin Gastronome Fest collaborates with Aqua Reflections, Aqua’s premium bottled water which comes in two variants; Sparking and Still. Through this innovation, Aqua is committed to providing the best quality mineral water for the consumers. “Today is special, because this is the first Westin Gastronome Fest. That’s why we took Aqua Reflections as a partner, because Aqua Reflections’ brand as a premium and healthy mineral water really fits our mission as well, which is ‘Eat Well’ at Magnolia,” added Rizal.

Meanwhile, the two-day event was attended by hundreds of guests who were curious about the epic collaboration between Chef John and Chef Mili. The appetizing creations presented include Ayam Pejantan Lollipop, Salmon Ginger Tartare, Malang Applewood Smooked Duck Breast, Takusen – Wagyu MB 4-5, and Wasabi Dark Chocolate. The 5-course dinner was even paired with wine, supported by PT. Yala Indo Perkasa, Gentleman Collection and MOM, which added to the luxurious dining experience. When asked about the preparations for this collaboration, Chef Mili explained, “We have prepared for this event since last month. Three weeks ago, we discussed the menus we would like to present at the Westin Gastronome Fest, and it turns out that this two-day event has received very good responses from the guests. It was great and I am very happy.” Chef John also added, “Obviously, we really wanted to provide not only the best menus, but also different from the others. We combined Asian and Western menus that we already have, then we gave some ‘twists’ of flavors and sensations that complement each other, so that it becomes a truly unique menu.”

A glimpse of Chef Mili Hendratno, he is an Executive Chef who has been in the culinary field for more than 14 years. Familiarly called Chef Mili, he currently lives in Yogyakarta and has established a homey-concept restaurant with special Asian & Western dishes. Chef Mili also often travels around Indonesia to attend various events such as culinary showcases and kitchen takeovers. And for the first time in Surabaya, Chef Mili will show his action in the open kitchen of Magnolia Restaurant, the highest restaurant in Surabaya. Not only the highest, Magnolia Restaurant has also been awarded as “Best Panoramic Views 2021” by the World Luxury Restaurant Award.
