Since its inauguration in September 2023, the Himpunan Humas Hotel Surabaya or Surabaya Hotel Public Relations Association (H3), has been continuously expanding its presence by organizing various activities each month. After successfully organizing a workshop on Public Speaking on Social Media in December last year, this time H3 Surabaya collaborated with Perhumas Surabaya Raya to hold a special discussion with the theme "Crisis Management".
Learning to Play Drama in Handling "Crisis Management", Discussion Agenda by Surabaya Hotel Public Relations Association
Inviting Suko W. - a UNAIR lecturer and also the Chairperson of Perhumas Surabaya Raya - accompanied by Rossi Rahardjo - the Board of Education of the PWI East Java, with the guidance of MC and moderator - Reimons S., Marketing Communication of The Southern Hotel Surabaya.
The event took place on Wednesday, March 6, 2023, located at Laviere Bar & Lounge on the 21st floor of Morazen Hotel Surabaya. Around 30 people, mostly professionals working in Marketing/PR at hotels in Surabaya, as well as from the Human Resource and General Manager professions, participated in the discussion.
Lasting for approximately one hour, there were many interesting discussions, mostly drawn from the personal experiences of the two speakers. How they dealt with a crisis that occurred in the company where they worked, and how the media responded to it, leading it into two patterns of thought: Positive or Negative.
"Bad News is Good News," a statement conveyed by Rossi R., in the midst of the conversation. For journalists, a disaster or a bad condition in a company can certainly become an "interesting" news item.
However, if one does not want to be engulfed by the media in a news report that damages a company's reputation, Suko W., said. "Good PR must be able to play drama skillfully and remain calm in dealing with a problem. Crisis is a normal thing for a company." This statement was also agreed upon by Rossi R., and added, "Therefore, it is crucial to build good relationships with many media journalists, both through formal and casual communication that can be done at any time."
The success of the event was supported by several major media outlets such as Bisnis Indonesia, What's New Surabaya, dailyhotels.id, Female Blitz, and Harian Surabaya.com. The speakers also received gifts as a token of appreciation from Jamu Iboe, Yello Hotel Jemursari, Maxone Dharmahusada, and Lapis Tugu Surabaya.
