Vasa Hotel Surabaya Invites Five-Star Chef to Educate Parents of Stunting Children Through Affordable Snack Cooking

The case of stunting on toddlers still has become the first priority of the Indonesian government lately. Even though the prevalent case of stunting has decreased to 21,4% in 2022, those numbers still fall short from the government's target to reduce it to 14% in 2024. The Ministry of Health has also socialized the key to prevent stunting is through the fulfillment of protein needs from various sources, such as milk, egg and meat. Other than that, it requires good habit development from the parents in the process of giving food to their child. This means, the prevention of stunting in a toddler's case requires collaboration from many parties, including the parents as well.

Realizing how important the parents role in this case, Vasa Hotel Surabaya commenced another CSR program for stunting, first by giving aid of 462 eggs and 462 boxes of UHT milk, as well as an event that introduce the affordable and health way to cook delicious snack for the parents with stunting toddler. Held on June 27th at Dukuh Pakis Disctrict, Surabaya, the event featured Vasa Hotel Surabaya Executive Chef, Purbo, who gave a live cooking demonstration in front of the parents. Purbo, who was once appointed as the judge for East Java's toddler food cooking competition, felt like he's being called to give the education to cook delicious, affordable snacks. He pinpoints the importance of boosting a toddler's appetite so they can be healed from stunting.

"The appetite of children can be unpredictable, and as parents, we are required to be creative in preparing food to stimulate their appetite. Today, we are educating on how to cook affordable snacks using easily accessible and inexpensive ingredients such as eggs, UHT milk, and tofu," said Purbo.

The parents will also be given the opportunity to cook and taste the snacks directly, namely French toast and tofu burgers. Apart from being easy and cheap, French toast and tofu burgers are chosen because they can be prepared in less than 30 minutes. These snacks are not only nutritious but also delicious, even though they are made from simple ingredients. Wuri, one of the parents of a toddler, expressed that this socialization is very useful because it is easy and tasty.

"Sometimes children can be fussy about food, and it requires cooking new recipes to make them like it, and this tastes delicious, quick, and cheap too. I'm sure the children will love it," Wuri said with enthusiasm.
