JW Marriott Surabaya, part of Marriott International, organized the sixth annual ‘Run to Give’ charity event in Surabaya on September 22, 2019. JW Marriott Surabaya along with other Marriott Surabaya hotel groups joined other Marriott International hotels in 23 countries and regions simultaneously in the Asia Pacific for this fundraising initiative. Since the event was inaugurated in 2014, ‘Run to Give’ has become an integral part of the company’s tradition of fostering an environment that prioritizes employees who encourage employee welfare and encourage people to care about the communities where they do business.
“The annual charity event is the main activity of our company’s TakeCare program which empowers employees to live our culture. Through this program, we encourage our partners to maintain their physical well-being, while giving them the opportunity to be part of a community that respects, shares the good, and contributes to a more compassionate world, “said Regan Taikitsadaporn, Chief Human Resource Officer, Marriott International Asia Pacific.
This year, JW Marriott Surabaya, Sheraton and Four Points by Sheraton, Pakuwon Golf Family Club, Fairfield by Marriott, The Westin – Four points, gather together at the Pakuwon Family Club to raise funds for Indonesia for Refugees to help refugees get education. and soft skills to help them have a meaningful life in Indonesia; This run garnered more than 1000 Marriott International associates, affiliates and athletes. Local influencers such as Margenie Winarti, Jade Hartono, Tya Mihoo, the Surabaya runner community were also attended this annual event. “This year, the Dash Kids category became much more interesting and fun!”, said Mona Cella – one of the Run To Give 2019 committees.
Running that starts at the Pakuwon Imperial Ballroom is divided into two categories 5km and 1km for children. This route aims to offer participants a different perspective from the local community where they live and work.
Last year, “Run to Give” took place in 109 locations across Asia Pacific, which involved more than 10,500 associates from 546 properties with nearly 36,700 runners participating, raising over US$400,000 supporting non-profit partners, selected local charities across Asia Pacific as well as contributed towards Marriott disaster relief efforts. With a growing hotel footprint underpinned by the strength of its associates, Marriott International aims to continue creating a lasting positive impact on the local communities it serves, guided by its social impact and sustainability platform, Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction.
