Today marks the first training session by the Manchester City Football School at British School Jakarta (MCFS at BSJ) Head Coach Chris McCarthy as he visited British School Jakarta (BSJ). This visit is a part of the football school’s preparation to open its door to the public early next year.

Earlier in July this year, BSJ and Manchester City Football Club announced their partnership to establish the first and only Manchester City Football School in Indonesia.

BSJ Principal David Butcher said “We are very pleased to welcome Chris McCarthy to our school and the football-loving country of Indonesia. With over 12 years of coaching experience with Manchester City, he will bring world-class football coaching experience to our students and the greater public of Indonesia.” During the visit, Chris facilitated two training sessions for both boys and girls students of BSJ Primary and Secondary. Below are some testimonials from the BSJ students attending the session:

“The session was really fun. Playing with the coach was really entertaining, especially with the skills training. I really enjoyed the session,” said Justin.

“It was really fun. We got to develop our skills with Coach Chris. We got to play a small game too,” said Keanu.

“It was very challenging and at the same time very rewarding. I’m glad I got to be part of this training session,” said Thalia.

In the first phase of the partnership, BSJ will adapt and implement the ‘City Play Model’; a state of the art educational football programme devised by the coaching team at Manchester City. This will be used in constructing a football programme into the Physical and Health Education (P&HE) curriculum for its students. In education terms, this is creating a ‘school within a school’. All students in Primary and Secondary will learn their football skills using the City Play Model in BSJ P&HE curriculum.

Through this partnership, our coaches will also receive special training to apply the Manchester City Play Model. Finally, in March 2022 we will open to the public the MCFS at BSJ for both boys and girls to learn their skills through the City Play Model”, David added.

MCFS at BSJ will open its first batch of recruitment at the end of January 2022, starting in March 2022 given the COVID-19 rules permitting.
