Reminiscing the old simpler times, Paramount Restaurant has served classic Cantonese-style food since 1970. The building still stands strong in Menteng area with regular guests keep coming by looking to an almost full parking lot at peak hours. Inside, the standard red color is pretty dominant here. Soto Betawi H. Ma’ruf
Many notable figures have already tasted Soto Betawi H. Ma’ruf and they really loved it. They are our current reigning president Joko Widodo, the late Gus Dur, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, and many more. Located inside Taman Ismail Marzuki area, Soto Betawi H. Ma’ruf was established in 1940 and exudes nostalgia thanks to its traditional Betawi-style house design. Soto Betawi tastes very rich and tasty with a generous portion of tender beef meat with a fresh hint from tomatoes and lime. The famous outlet at Taman Ismail Marzuki is now temporarily closed for revitalization until late 2021, but don’t worry as you can visit their other outlets in Menteng, Pramuka, or Tebet.

Many said, “If you want to impress your parent-in-law, bring them to Restoran Sanur to have a feast.” Restoran Sanur has been around since the ’40s and was once an iconic restaurant back then. We love how the dominantly red color, wooden brown, table-clothed Lazy Susan tables, and oriental ornaments create a nostalgic and yet elegant atmosphere inside, while attentive staff serves guests with discretion. The must-try signature dishes are Cuttlefish with Oyster Butter Sauce, Fuyung Hai, Live Api Shrimp, Live Vaname Shrimp, Live Steamed Garoupa, and Sautéed Beef with Broccoli to name a few.

Founded in 1978, Resto Mandala is located on the busiest street of Wolter Monginsidi Street, South Jakarta. People from neighborhood locals, more notably family-oriented guests always make a crowd here, while other guests lining up outside is just a familiar sight to see. The restaurant itself is not quite big, packed with festive Chinese ornaments and string lights to make the atmosphere even more colorful. Mie Goreng Kepiting Istimewa, Ayam Goreng Mentega, Kodok Goreng Mentega, and Bistik Sapi are the most favorites.

Nasi Goreng Kambing Kebon Sirih
Let’s not forget Nasi Goreng Kambing Kebon Sirih, although it’s not conventionally a restaurant and serves as a street food joint, we must include the legendary fried rice here. The permanent vendor tickles our senses from afar. The fragrant emanating aroma and a piling up cooked fried rice on the big wok like a mountain will have you drooling in an instance. Regulars often come to dine in here or in their car. Not to mention there’s a long queue for takeaways too. The lamb is tender and cooked to perfection, try it warm and top with crackles. Another option to try is Sate Kambing, Sate Ayam, Kambing Guling, and Sop Kambing.
