For millennials these days, there’s an easy way to look up and try new ventures and cafes that keep popping up on social media or words of mouth. However, for the older generations, they most probably stick to the city’s decades-old restaurants that have stood against the test of time. The way they want to introduce them to their younger generation makes them keep coming back for great food and memories. Old but still gold and, and here are some of the lists of legendary restaurants and eating places to take a trip down memory lane.

Restaurant Rendezvous

Legit, Restaurant Rendezvous is still a trusted name since opening in 1973. The simplistic homey layout, old curtains, wooden furnishings, and most notably their great Chinese food. It looks set for a very casual family rendezvous. Go for their Bistik Sapi, Bistik Babi Saos Mangga, Lindung Cah Fumak, and a very good Lumpia Udang to indulge your hunger.

Ayam Goreng Suharti

Guilty as charged, this restaurant has been famous for its classic fried chicken and crispy since 1991. The irresistible golden-brown traditional fried chicken topped with generous overflowing crispy is a perfect idea for lunch or dinner. Complete the meal with Tahu or Tempe Goreng or maybe Ati Ample and sambal and you’re ready to go. Another opt would be their Gurame Goreng, Pepes Ikan Mas, Pecel Lele, and Cah Kangkung.

Gado-Gado Bon Bin

Established in 1960, Gado-Gado Bon Bin has been a beloved joint in Cikini area ever since. As the name implies, Bon Bin stands for ‘Kebon Binatang’, which means ‘zoo’ that opened near the joint before moved to Ragunan back then. The peanut dressing is not mashed and mixed with the veggies like other gado-gado you mostly find, but they will pour the ever-smooth dressing over the veggies and let the guests mix them on the plate. Tasty, fresh, and quite acidic at the same time, don’t forget to add prawn crackers to add textures.

We heard and read a lot about the notorious unwelcoming cashier lady, but that’s not stopping people to come and reward themselves for a good old-style Italian ice cream. Ever since 1932, Ragusa has been a place for people to escape the hot weather of Jakarta plus history to see through pictures on the walls. The notorious Spaghetti Ice Cream, Cassata Siciliana, and Tutti Frutti are the most favorites. For a simple flavor, go for their Nougat, Mocca, Vanilla, or Coupe de Maison for mixed flavored ice cream.
