It was pouring down on that Friday afternoon when we drove to the Kemayoran area but the traffic was light and easy. Kemayoran these days, is famous as the place to hold big events from exhibitions to music concerts. Resides strategically on the main street in the compound area where Grand Mercure Kemayoran Hotel is located, The Lynx Restaurant, Bar & Lounge claim themself as a Hidden Paradise. We did not realize this, until the greeter who welcomed us warmly in a five-star hospitality manner, took us downstairs to the basement of the building where The Lynx is settled.
We were amazed by an elegant and classy black, green and gold interior as we made our entrance. The Lynx is featuring a bar, lounge, vibrant dining room, library, cigar, and private dining rooms, including a botanical seating area with a feminine touch in its interior, perfectly suits a ladies’ gathering. Each space is thoughtfully designed in a polished, yet relaxed setting with its own robust personalities.
Culinary Journey Escalated Up To The Next Level
Before we were being escorted to our table, we made a short trip to the vibrant bar area where a chatty bartender asked us what is our preferred taste in cocktails. After addressing him what we would like to have, then a glass of “Silence in Sour” from the list of Bartender Secret’s Premium Cocktails menu is being served and it definitely suited our request for a sour and punchy cocktail to kick in our palate for the dinner.
The Sensational Appetizers
After being seated comfortably at our table, plates of appetizers are being served. Started with “Lobster Pancake with Avruga Caviar” – a tender and juicy lobster dumpling topped with black caviar and dipped in warm lobster bisque that rich and creamy, served on duck spoons, so it’s a one-bite of lobster sensation. Next, we tried their signature “The Lynx Poke” – a fresh yellowfin tuna tartare with avocado, crispy shallots, tobiko, microgreens, and citrusy lime dressing (the secret of this dish is not just the fresh tuna but also the perfect ripeness of the avocado!).
Then we continued to the next one, a plate of extraordinary “Truffled Fried Black Cassava”, fried cassava using a black charcoal powder which is tender and crispy at the same time and dipped in a special truffle sauce. The last appetizer on our table was actually fit for a main course, the “Aburi Chirashi Tart” where a perfectly cooked Japanese rice layered with spicy tuna, salmon, avocado, dressed with The Lynx special sauce and flamed then topped with prawn, scallop, maguro, tobiko, and ikura. Surprisingly, after all these amazing appetizers, we were very much looking forward to our main courses!
A Feast for The Senses
Our main courses started with “Crispy Duck Leg with Angel Hair Aglio Olio”, the duck leg was being cooked a la sous vide so it was so tender and juicy on the meat yet crispy on the skin perfectly combined with homemade al dente angel hair pasta and a zesty Balinese style sambal matah kecombrang. Then we savored the next main course which is the “Wagyu Katsu Sando”, talking about wagyu sandwich which has been some kind of a trendy menu for Jakartans, this particular one served by The Lynx was one of the best using pain de campagne bread with thick slices of wagyu rib-eye, melted cheese, caramelized onions, pickles, and served with fries.
To balance the ecstatic feast, we were being served “Quinoa Beef Wagyu Fried Rice”, a healthier option of fried rice using quinoa and topped with grilled beef wagyu. Though it’s a healthy choice, it tasted like a real kampung-style fried rice since they are using traditional sweet and spicy sambal bajak.
The star of the dinner went to “The Meat Platter” where all kinds of premium meats are grilled to perfection from wagyu tenderloin, rib-eye, lamb rack to roasted half chicken served with glazed vegetables, roasted black garlic, green asparagus, beef jus, and mashed potatoes.
Hands down to Executive Chef Deni Sugiarto who meticulously composed this magical culinary journey which tantalized all of our taste buds from the palate to the aroma and the beautiful food presentation for the eyes.
Wrapped Up in Sweet Closure
We were left in nothing but totally satisfied with our dining experience whilst enjoying the live music performance by the home band, and yes even the entertainment has been chosen just right by having one of the top list south Jakarta’s bands singing your all-time favorite rhythm & blues and Top 40’s playlist. Like we have not had enough, a platter of dessert variety in “Dessert Platter” consists of blueberry panna cotta, Valrhona chocolate cake, gâteau mousse, and strawberry club sandwich was being served together with a glass of “Black Box” from The Lynx Special Cocktails menu, to wrap up the perfect evening.
When they said a Hidden Paradise, The Lynx does not play around. Just like paradise, from the moment you enter the venue, then they will escalate you to another level up of dining experiences, the luxurious interior, and amenities including the attentive services from all the staffs, you will definitely feel like you are in a paradise!
