Ensuing the extraordinary success of “Welcoming Back Asian Games” and “The Glory of Palembang” held in August 2018 and in conjunction with Hotel Indonesia’s 57th anniversary, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta is set to host Kalā – Capturing Indonesian Artistry, from the 5th till 20th August 2019.
Kalā means performing arts in Sanskrit. It showcases the splendour of Indonesia’s Performing Arts through a series of events with traditional Wayang performance and Museum Exhibition along with a Historical Tour of Hotel Indonesia, and Museum Tour to three significant museums in Kota Tua area. One of the highlights of Kalā series is also “Rasā” – a feast of old time Angkringan & traditional culinary experience reflecting Indonesian tradition. Kalā culminates with a Fashion Show by star designer, Sapto Djojokartiko.
Commencing 5th of August, the lobby at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski will be transformed into a museum featuring incredible collections from Museum Wayang, Museum Tekstil and Museum Seni Rupa dan Keramik. This exhibition will conclude on the 20th of August.

During the exhibition, guests will also be able to enjoy a heritage tour of the hotel being transported back to 1962, when Hotel Indonesia was inaugurated by the country’s first president, Ir. Soekarno. Historical assets can be viewed from the era, including a pair of scissors, which was used by the President at the hotel’s ribbon cutting ceremony on the 5th of August 1962. This historical tour will be followed by a visit to three museums in Kota Tua namely Museum Wayang, Museum Sejarah Jakarta and Museum Seni Rupa dan Keramik where guests will be able to appreciate the local heritage, history and culture. It will also be the highlight of this Hotel Indonesia Heritage Tour & Jakarta Museum Tour.
“Natya Vidya” brings artists from Solo under Wayang Suket Indonesia. A traditional shadow puppet performance, Wayang Suket with a twist of contemporary art will be presented on one of the nights during the event.
To close this series of Kalā event, a fashion presentation by Saptodjojokartiko on 20th August will be highlighted as the peak of the event. Boasting creative existence, always appreciating simple and intricate details which elevate elegance and grandeur – Saptodjojokartiko returns with a new collection for the S/S 20 season entitled “Wisik”. Taking place at the iconic Bali Room at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta, SaptoDjojokartiko took the inspiration from the classic Indonesian Performing Art – Wayang Kulit and creates his own modern interpretation of the highly regarded culture and tradition.
