British School Jakarta (BSJ) is proud to announce that its Year 11 students have once again excelled in their International General Certificate of Secondary Education (I/GCSE) results this summer. In spite of spending much of the year learning online or in a hybrid classroom, our talented, hard working and resilient students have succeeded in achieving excellent results. The results once again demonstrate that BSJ’s agility in delivering its learning activities both face-to-face and online has proven to be successful.
BSJ Principal David Butcher said, “It is a testimony to the resilience of our students and the agility of our teaching faculty that our Year 11 students have received the superb I/GCSE results this year. What is clear is this positive approach to both the learning and teaching in extraordinarily difficult times and the wonderful collaboration from both students and teachers in achieving these results. We have a great deal to be proud of with this special year group.”
BSJ Head of Secondary Deborah Duncan added, ”We would like to congratulate our wonderful students for their achievements which will pave their way into a successful start to their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP) courses, the next stepping stone in their academic journey. We are grateful to our knowledgeable and skilled teachers who have guided and supported our students so effectively to assist in their success.“
Below are some of the key statistics from this year’s results:
International General Certificate of Secondary Education (I/GCSE)
● Sixty four percent (64%) of grades achieved were either A, A or the new top levels of 9-7 which now apply to many IGCSEs
● Ninety eight point one percent (98.1%) of grades achieved were A – C (or the equivalent 9-4)
● Ninety nine point two percent (99.2%) of students achieved A– C (or the equivalent 9-4) in at least 5 subjects
● Twenty one (21) students achieved an outstanding set of results with 10 or more A/A or 9-7 grades
● BSJ’s I/GCSE grade average was 6.84
The I/GCSE is a two-year programme leading to externally set, marked and certificated examinations from the University of Cambridge. With a more internationalised curriculum compared to the GCSE, any student taking an I/GCSE subject will gain globally recognised qualification, and are therefore an ideal foundation for higher level courses, such as AS and A Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Offering a wider range of subjects, particularly languages, to be as flexible as possible to multiple contexts, I/GCSE is currently an excellent programme to prepare students for international higher education.
At BSJ, I/GCSE is delivered in Year 10-11. This rigorous and internationally recognised qualification provides a broad and balanced foundation for further study and is the ideal preparation for the IB DP and IB CP.
