The British Chamber of Commerce (BritCham) Board convened this week and unanimously approved the appointment of an Indonesian National as its Chairman for the first time in its 42 years of establishment. Rino Donosepoetro (Donny), Vice Chairman, ASEAN & President Commissioner Indonesia for Standard Chartered Bank, succeeds Olly Riches whose promotion to Senior Managing Director, SEA, Page Group sees him relocating to Singapore.

On passing the baton to Donny after almostsix years ofservice on the Board, Olly said, “Donny is a seasoned international banker whose 25 years at Standard Chartered saw him operating out of seven markets, three of which in senior and leadership positions across Asia, Europe and South America. He currently sitsin a number of international boardsincluding the UK-ASEAN Business Council, digital venture Audax Ltd, and he also serves as Deputy Co-Chair on the B20 Finance and Infrastructure Task Force.

“Donny’s appointment is really progressive and exciting. BritCham has a diverse and well represented Board. This positions the Chamber to further excel on behalf of its members and in pursuit of its primary objective of promoting trade and relationships between Indonesia and the UK.

Donny joined the BritCham Board in June 2019 and became a Vice Chair shortly after. Of his new appointment, Donny commented “It is undoubtedly a privilege and honour to be entrusted as the next steward of BritCham.”

“BritCham has been playing an increasingly strategic role in fostering closer ties between British businesses with the Indonesian counterparts, particularly in the areas of sustainability, education, technology and healthcare. “

“Together with my fellow Executive Board Officers, I would aspire to build upon what Olly has achieved in creating ever more value for our members and further promote trade and investments between the UK and Indonesia.”

Whilst the succession will become effective on May 1st, the Board was also keen to support Donny’s proposal to expand the Executive Board Officers team by adding a third Vice Chair. Gary Selbie, President Director of Premier Oil A Harbour Energy Company who recently stepped down from the presidency of the Indonesia Petroleum Association, and Dimitris Kostianis, Managing Director Asia of PZ Cussons, take up the vacant and new Vice Chair positions along with the incumbent Vice Chair Valentina Chai, Group Treasurer of Astra International Tbk

Meanwhile, Francois de Maricourt, CEO of PT Bank HBSC Indonesia, continues to serve as Executive Secretary and BritCham’srepresentative to EuroCham along with Treasurer Graham Garven and the long-serving Executive Director of 16 years, Chris Wren.
