Jakarta’s 494th anniversary day is just around the corner. There were usually lots of celebrations to commemorate the city’s anniversary on June 22 like a food festival, great sale, fireworks, exhibition, and others. This time around during the pandemic, some hotels in Jakarta do not celebrate like they used to. No food festival in large scale group at their restaurant or celebratory fanfares. But they still low-key offer a unique oncoming Betawi promotion for discerning guests to taste a bit of classic old Jakarta. Here is a list of hotels for you to celebrate Jakarta:
ASTON PRIORITY SIMATUPANG HOTEL & CONFERENCE CENTER
The anniversary of the capital city of Jakarta is annually celebrated every June 22. Various types of events were also presented to jazz up the big day. This time, DKI Jakarta is entering its 494th year with the theme Jakarta Bangkit (Jakarta Rises).
Without hindering creativity in the midst of a pandemic, ASTON Priority Simatupang Hotel & Conference Center will hold a DIY Ondel-Ondel Workshop. The fun workshop will be held on Sunday, June 20, 2021, at 10.00 AM at Momiji Japanese Restaurant – ASTON Priority Simatupang Hotel & Conference Center in collaboration with the Betawi cultural center, Setu Babakan. This activity will also be enlivened by musical performances from The Angel Orchestra by performing Betawi songs.
To take part in the DIY Ondel-Ondel Workshop, participants are charged a fee of IDR 200,000 net per person. The fee includes a Bento Lunch Box from the Canary Coffee Shop and a set of DIY Ondel-Ondel souvenirs. The participants will also get various insights about Betawi culture which will be presented by one of the senior artists, Sanardi Alam.
“This workshop is our celebration for the 494th anniversary of DKI Jakarta, with the hope of raising the spirit of creativity in the midst of the pandemic. Of course, we held this event by implementing health protocols and limiting workshop participants,” said S. Aulia Masjhoerdin, as General Manager.
This workshop activity can also be watched on the Youtube channel of ASTON Priority Simatupang Hotel & Conference Center and Live Instagram @ASTONSimatupang.

Alila SCBD Jakarta
Alila SCBD Jakarta celebrates Jakarta’s 494th birthday by having heritage artworks, urban getaway, and sumptuous classic Betawi’s menu at Vong Kitchen. Due to COVID-19, festive promotions may change due to social distancing and governmental regulations. For now, here are the promotions you can’t miss to celebrate the big durian’s anniversary day:
Indonesian Heritage Art
Alila SCBD’s sophisticated minimalist interiors are intertwined with original artworks specially commissioned for this cool urban retreat. Outside the entrance to the hotel, guests are greeted by the ‘Orbital of Joy’, a large wall-mounted work of art created by Yogyakarta-based art duo Indieguerillas. The circular orbital shape of this contemporary piece represents a continuous cycle or journey. The six characters that make up the piece represent travelers on their own personal journeys. Each hug a geotag icon symbolizing a place to stopover, take a break, and recoup one’s energy along the journey. While enjoying their own ‘stopover’ at Alila SCBD, guests are welcome to photo themselves as one of many characters replicated in the artwork for that memorable moment on their journey.
Stepping inside the hotel’s large living room-styled lobby reveals a dramatic art installation titled ‘Birds, Bats and Butterflies’, created by Australian-born architect and artist Richard Hassell, co-founder of the award-winning WOHA Architects. It comprises a series of three-dimensional bird, bat, and butterfly-shaped aluminum tiles in different sizes, ranging from 80cm to 400cm, mounted on the wall or suspended from the ceiling.
The tile designs take inspiration from South East Asian batik and textiles, and all the creatures depicted within them are auspicious – from the butterflies that symbolize long life, beauty, and elegance, to the phoenix, one of the four celestial creatures, bringing good fortune and opportunity.
In preparation for Jakarta’s birthday this month, pack up the family for a fun-filled break in the heart of the city. To celebrate the occasion, discover 22% off for the second room booked on 22 June 2021 through the official website.
