Usually, trends tend to blow over after a while, but the craze for Taiwanese-style of bubble tea in Jakarta is still in full force. The sensation of chewing those glistering black tapioca pearls faced with some pleasant aspect of soft, chewy, and mildly sweet. Sometimes it’s called ‘boba’ in short. Boba tea is without a question delicious. But why stop at only milk tea? The latest trend in the game of boba for foodies is boba cakes. Now, we encapsulated five of the best spots to find satisfying boba cake in Jakarta.

1. Moivel

Moivel is one of the first few places to fuel the boba cake craze in Jakarta. The cake they use to represent is soft chiffon cake that is served with rum-flavored cream cheese sauce. The quality of the boba does not disappoint either, featuring a well-made soft overflowing boba on top of it to complement each other.

2. Benedict

Union Group has been a long time player of making a line of sublime gourmet cakes. No wonder, they recently introduced Boba Fever series to chew down our craving of boba at Benedict. What’s not to love? Their Boba Cake consists of towering brown sugar cake layers, earl grey buttercream, and crumbles, then finished it with cream cheese frosting and boba on the top. There’s one thing that makes us hungry even more, Boba French Toast and Boba Churros are up to order too. Tease us much?

3. Pan & Co

Don’t be fooled by the small numbers of people getting in line in front of the outlet, because it can be deceiving. In facts, people can draw waiting for numbers and can still wander off the mall because they can check the number line on the website on their gadgets.

For their boba game, Pan & Co pulls it off by serving boba with their signature Japanese fluffy pancake named Bobalicious. The pancake is surely soft yet moist with a hint aroma of egg yolks. Then, the pancake is adorned with the subtle whipped cream cheese tops with perfectly sweet balanced boba.

4. Paladin Coffee + Kitchen

One of the hidden gems that serves boba cake is Paladin Coffee + Kitchen. Situated in Jl. Guru Mughni, South Jakarta, they play the boba cake card really right. The main reason to munch their Bubble Lava is the consistency. Not too packed, so the staff wasn’t in need to rush preparing the dishes. A basic ring-shaped chiffon cake is elevated to a new level by cream cheese melt. On top of that, a generous amount of boba. All of which are satisfyingly nice and subtly sweet.

5. Ban Ban Cheese Tea

First of all, the estimated waiting time is about an hour. Long queues are a common sight thanks to their specialty organic and fresh cheese tea. But we’re not here for that. Their Boba Pan is quite affordable compared to other settlements. It only costs IDR 25.000. The question, is it worth waiting? Definitely! It is basically a soft and not-too-sweet brioche bread poured with the ever rich and buttery cream cheese sauce. The boba in here had the perfect al dente bite, providing a natural sense of sweetness from brown sugar.
