The biggest furniture and handicraft exhibition in the region, Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) was held differently this year. IFEX is holding a series of virtual programs, such as IFEX Virtual Expo which held on March 11-14, 2021. IFEX Virtual Expo is the first virtual exhibition from IFEX, featuring 59 companies from furniture and handicraft production center all over Indonesia. IFEX Virtual Expo is an exhibition forum that utilizes technology to continue carrying out furniture business activities from Indonesia to the world.
The Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI) and Dyandra Promosindo as the organizer of the IFEX Virtual Expo revealed that the IFEX, which is always held annually, this year is held virtually to accommodate the needs of buyers to stay connected with exhibitors even in a pandemic. The physical distancing policy has made IFEX held virtually and can be accessed by buyers from anywhere, both domestic and foreign. IFEX Virtual Expo itself has been accessed by 1,905 buyers from 63 countries during these four days.
IFEX Virtual Expo displays Indonesian furniture and handicraft products to revive the export activities of the local furniture and handicraft industry to the global market. As said by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, to intensify the use and purchase of local products. IFEX has become a reference for regional furniture and handicraft trends which still attracts the attention of international buyers. Moreover, in the first IFEX Virtual Expo, more than 1,000 international buyers access the platform from various countries, such as Australia, the USA, India, Spain, Singapore, France, Greece, China, Japan and the Netherlands. The high interest of the global market for Indonesian products is expected to be able to restore export growth to the local furniture and handicraft industry.
“IFEX always displays great Indonesian products. This is what attracts international buyers because Indonesian products have unique and ethnic designs. Besides, Indonesian products are also made from distinctive and solid materials, such as rattan and wood. We hope the local products will attract buyers to look up at the IFEX Virtual Expo. We hope the IFEX Virtual Expo can become a momentum to revive the interest in exporting Indonesian furniture and handicraft products to the global market,” said Abdul Sobur, Presidium of HIMKI.
The features presented at the IFEX Virtual Expo make it easier for buyers and exhibitors to interact with each other and conduct business meetings. There were 168 business contacts between buyers and exhibitors for further discussion. Therefore, to meet the business needs of this industry, the IFEX Virtual Expo is extended to March 31, 2021.
“To respond to business needs, we decided to extend the IFEX Virtual Expo. With the large variety of Indonesian products from exhibitors, it is not enough with only four days of the event. With this extension, we hope can maintain optimism from industry players for industrial economic recovery. We also express our gratitude for the enthusiasm and support from buyers, exhibitors, the government, and the stakeholders for the IFEX Virtual Expo. The IFEX virtual programs will still be present this year so there is still an opportunity to participate in IFEX. Hopefully, this program will bring local products to a higher level in the domestic and foreign markets,” said Hendra Noor Saleh, President Director of Dyandra Promosindo.
IFEX Virtual Expo is also endorsed by two government agencies, the Jepara Regency Government and Indonesia Eximbank to encourage local products in marketing and product export activities. IFEX will continue to implement innovations in anticipating the situation to facilitate the furniture business. The IFEX virtual program series that will be present in a moment and are worth waiting for called ‘IFEX Virtual Showroom’ will present a digital exhibition concept with 360-degree camera technology in the showroom or factory area of the participants, hence the buyers can view the product preview with three-dimensional visuals and be able to interact directly with exhibitors.
