British School Jakarta (BSJ) is pleased to announce that its Year 13 Graduating class of 2021 have achieved excellent final results for their IB qualification this year. The final results have incorporated a mixture of teacher predicted grades and externally marked internal assessments (IA), due to the ongoing pandemic situation.
BSJ Principal David Butcher said, “In a time of unparalleled disruption to our education system, our students and staff have shown fortitude, skill and resilience that has been reflected in their perseverance and learning in both the IB Career-related Programme (IB CP) and IB Diploma Programme (IB DP); it goes above and beyond in terms of success.”
BSJ Head of Secondary Deborah Duncan added, “We are very proud of our students’ achievement in their IB final result. It is a testament to the hard work and perseverance of our wonderful Year 13 students, supported and guided by our highly qualified and experienced teachers, that these results are so impressive.”
Below are some of the key statistics from this year’s result:
IB Diploma Programme (IB DP)
Perfect IB DP scores
Three students achieved the maximum score of 45 points, a perfect IB DP score. This puts them in the top 0.5% of students worldwide.
Other notable results
- Fourteen (14) students, or 15%, have achieved 43 points or higher (on average 3% of students worldwide achieve 43 or above)
- Thirty-two (32) students, or 35%, have achieved 40 points or more–putting them in thetop 9% of students worldwide this year
- Eighty-one percent (81%) of BSJ students have achieved above this year’s world average of 33 point

IB Career-Related Programme (IB CP)
All students entered for the first cohort of the IB CP achieved well. As well as scoring well in the Diploma subjects studied, with grades up to the maximum 7, CP students all achieved at least a B in the Reflective Project. These students will all be taking up places at university in the UK, Canada and the Netherlands to pursue their particular career passion.
Our Year 13 students will be attending many top universities around the world due to these excellent IB results and the quality of their applications supported by our professional and experienced University Counselling team.
The class of 2021 applied to 38 different majors in 17 countries. Around 28% applied to the US and received offers from prestigious universities, including Ivy League schools, such as, but not limited to, Harvard, Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Stanford, Northwestern, UCLA and UC Berkeley.
In the UK, students received offers from highly ranked and historical institutions such as The University of Oxford and The University of Cambridge, as well as other Russell Group universities, such as, but not limited to, Imperial College, University College London (UCL), King’s College London, University of Durham, University of Exeter, University of Warwick, and the medical programme in Queen Mary University of London.
Students also received great offers from other destinations, such as from Yonsei University (ranked number 1 in South Korea and the top 30 of world rank universities), University of Leiden, Amsterdam and Groningen (the Netherlands), University of Toronto and University of British Columbia (Canada), as well as University of Melbourne, University of Sydney and Monash University (Australia).
