National Batik Day, which celebrates every 2nd of October, is a historical day when batik is recognized as a Humanitarian Heritage for Oral and Intangible Culture (Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity) by UNESCO. It is nowadays become a celebration of Indonesian culture across several platforms all over the world.
In commemoration of National Batik Day, which falls every October 2, and as part of the Accor group’s year-round program, namely, Rediscover Indonesia with ALL – Accor Live Limitless, Pullman Bandung Grand Central offers a different experience for hotel visitors to enjoy the beauty of the legendary batik of West Java. In collaboration with Rumah Batik Komar and DEKRANASDA (Regional National Crafts Council) Bandung, Pullman Bandung Grand Central presents an exclusive batik exhibition, ‘Legend of Batik Parahyangan’ to preserve and introduce the history of batik to the guest, especially original pattern from West Java.
The exhibition will be held from September 30 until October 11, 2021, at T-Box Tea Lounge and Ballroom Foyer Pullman Bandung Grand Central. During the exhibition, guests can enjoy the beautiful traditional West Java batik collection at the T-Box Tea Lounge Lobby level from 10.00 – 21.00 WIB. The legendary batik collection comes from the famous batik center of Bandung, Rumah Batik Komar. Established in 1998, Rumah Batik Komar is known for its legendary traditional batik collection that has traditional elements that are full of meaning and profound history pertaining to West Java culture.
Guests can also see a variety of premium batik collections from five Bandung Batik SMEs (UMKM) underthe guidance of DEKRANASDA Bandung at Ballroom Foyer Pullman Bandung Grand Central area starts from 10.00 – 19.00 WIB. During the exclusive batik exhibition week, Pullman Bandung Grand Central focused on the Merak Ngibing batik pattern and the Patra Komala pattern as an iconic motif that synergizes with the hotel interior concept and the beauty of Bandung city.
The main exhibition event was on October 2, 2021, inviting Mrs. Hj. Siti Muntamah Oded, S.AP. as the Chairman of DEKRNASDA Bandung and the Mayor’s wife of Bandung City. There were also representatives from the RBM (Community-based Rehabilitation) practicing the batik canting as one of the traditional batik-making techniques with Mrs. Hj. Siti Muntamah Oded, S.AP in promoting National Batik Day. The RBM (Community-Based Rehabilitation) organization is an organization engaged in the empowerment of persons with disabilities.
Furthermore, Pullman Bandung Grand Central presents a classic batik touch by raising sixteen batik flags with eight motifs at the Pullman Bandung International Convention Center for a week. In addition, special welcome food was prepared in a beautiful batik placemat for Pullman Bandung Grand Central VIP guests. All selected batik patterns have legendary stories that guests can access by scanning the QR code on IPTV and the exhibition area.
Pullman Bandung Grand Central also enlivened the Rediscover Indonesia program with ALL – Accor Live Limitless, which was presented throughout the year simultaneously in more than 130 hotels in 30 destinations in Indonesia.
