There are three types of photographs people just love to take: food, nature, and, yes, the selfie. Bandung naturally has the first two covered with its collection of culinary delicacies and majestic mountains and waterfalls. As for the third category, recently locations all over the city have been erected exclusively for the much-maligned, as well as loved, selfie. They are known as tempat wisata selfie and you should try it before you knock it. It is rather difficult not to have fun at these often rather crazy places.

1. Rabbit Town

Garnering headlines the world over for mimicking famous landmarks and artworks, Rabbit Town has everything from a Yayoi Kusama type Obliteration Room to a collection of rooms resembling the Museum of Ice Cream in Los Angeles where fluorescent ice cream cones hang upside down from the ceiling. Some call it plagiarism, some call it harmless fun. But each room and space of Rabbit Town is colorful and vibrant and just one Instagram hashtag search will promptly reveal the grand scope of its grandeur and lunacy.

2. Chinatown

China Town is more of a post-modern homage to Chinese culture than an actual, authentic Chinese enclave in Bandung. It celebrates ancient Chinese architecture, culture, and cuisine adapted for the Indonesian market without pork that is. With a cosy outdoor garden and a traditional Paifang red arch entrance, China Town also offers mind-bending infinity rooms for selfies, such as their enchanted forest, sunflower field, and lampion galore.

3. Amazing 3D Art World

This massive museum plays with the eyes and minds point of perspective, making it seem like you are falling off a cliff or your children are becoming twice your size just through meticulously crafted artwork. Form underwater sceneries, to dinosaurs and monsters, shipwrecks, and cliffhangers, there is a surprise around every corner. This unique museum in Setiabudi is as fun as it is impressive and when the final photographs are just as entertaining.

4. Upside Down World

In Roald Dahl’s The Twits, the Twit family meet their eventual demise when their entire house is turned literally upside down with all the furniture stuck onto the roof. This is what the Upside Down World is – an entire house made the wrong way around from the bedroom to the kitchen. Everything that should be grounded hangs from the ceiling. The idea is rather simple and might seem silly, but it is surprising how bizarre and disorienting it feels walking through this house.

5. THIS IS ME

The most difficult to define selfie museum is THIS IS ME. The one theme that ties the entire place together seems to be lavish sets of pastel colors, from a flamingo beach to a laundromat, basketball court, and giant candy land. If one ever needed a reminder just how eccentric and creative Bandung can get, this little cradle of craziness might just be the spot.
