I Made Kona Jakarta Restaurant and Cake Shop Executive Chef
The Dharmawangsa Jakarta has appointed I Made Kona to the role of Jakarta Restaurant and Cake Shop Executive Chef since July 2018. A creative force in the kitchen, Chef Kona will be responsible in the supervision of food production at Jakarta Restaurant and lead the pastry team with a wealth of experience. Chef Kona’s career spans 32 years in the industry that includes some experiences as Executive Pastry Chef in numerous international chain hotels in Singapore, Jakarta and Bali.
Although he never studied in culinary school before, his love and passion in pastry has brought him to his impressive career path. After completing his Senior High School in Bali, he was offered to work in Pastry department of Nusa Dua Beach Hotel, Bali. He left the company as Pastry Chef de Patisserie as a result of his hard work and determination. Since then, he continued to embrace his professional culinary journey at several international chain hotels such as Intercontinental Resort Bali, Four Seasons Resort Bali and The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta.
While pursuing his career as Pastry Chef, he continued his Bachelor degree majoring in Commercial Administration at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Administrasi in Denpasar, Bali and got his Master degree majoring in Management of Tourism & Hospitality from Sahid Jakarta University in 2012. Prior to joining The Dharmawangsa Jakarta, Chef Kona worked extensively as an Executive Pastry Chef in Four Seasons Jakarta and Four Seasons Singapore. He was also an appointed Pastry Chef Consultant for Four Seasons Maldives from 2009 to 2010.
Chef Kona, who was born and raised in Bali, has received numerous awards and accolades during his career, in 1998 he led his team to win Singapore and Indonesia Salon Culinaire International Competitions under WACS (World Association of Chefs’ Societies) and selected as The Best Outstanding Pastry Chef for Food & Hotel Indonesia category for two consecutive years, 1996 and 1997. He was also invited as one of the guest judges in MasterChef Indonesia in 2013, anIndonesiancompetitive cooking reality show based on the original British MasterChef.

When he is not in the kitchen, he loves to spend his time with art painting, carving and decorating. Life according to Chef Kona must be balanced between body and soul; he keeps the balancing by exercising regularly and does meditation to seek inspiration whenever he needs to be inspired.
