Following the charity event, Dining In The Dark, that was held on 3 December 2018, Fairmont Jakarta along with AccorHotels Indonesia have distributed the fund raised from the event and donated them to two beneficiaries, Yayasan Mitra Netra and A Tree for a Child (ATFAC). Each beneficiary received a donation of IDR 80,000,000 to support their programs. The donation giving was done at Fairmont Jakarta by Carlos Monterde, General Manager of Fairmont Jakarta and Lisa Simo, Regional Director of Brand Marketing from AccorHotels Malaysia-Indonesia-Singapore.

During “Dining in the Dark”, guests had the opportunity to embark a culinary experience dining in a pitch black room and only using their four senses of perception through taste, smell, touch and sound. The guests were treated with a 12-course dinner menu created by Fairmont Jakarta culinary team to indulge the senses.

Seated in the pitch-black dining room, the guests were guided and served by the visually impaired individuals from Yayasan Mitra Netra who were specially trained to guide sighted guests.

As part of the AccorHotels’ Planet 21 ‘Acting Here’ global commitment, the “Dining in the Dark” initiative is the company’s way of giving back to the local community. The aim of the event is to help guests to better understand the challenges faced by the visually-impaired and funds raised will help support the foundation efforts in providing job opportunities and education offerings for the blinds.

Yayasan Mitra Netra offers various programs help the visually impaired adapt and adjust to the work environment despite their disability and equip them with the right skills for their future

Meanwhile, A Tree for A Child (ATFAC) is a beneficiary that has been long supported by AccorHotels, who provides shelter homes for under privileged children in Jakarta and Bali.
